Nutrients from various sources, such as agricultural runoff, industrial and municipal wastewater, enter surface water and groundwater. This study aimed to evaluate the amount of phosphate and nitrate from the main pollutant sources of the Tajan River, including fish ponds, the antibiotics industry, Paksar, Mazandaran Wood and Paper mill, and Sand exploitation factories,and residential wastewater. Through field studies in the Tajan watershed, interviews with local people, and information from relevant departments, industrial and population pollutant sources were identified. In addition, sampling was carried out from four sand and gravel factories along the river, the effluent of three dual-purpose fish farming ponds, four cold-water fish farming ponds, and five warm-water fish farming ponds, and the effluent of the Mazandaran antibiotic, wood, and paper factories, and the Paksar dairy factory. Nutrient analysis was carried out using a photometer. To investigate the amount of suspended solid particles in the sand and gravel factories, sampling was carried out upstream and downstream of this industry, and the amount of suspended solid particles was determined by placing the sediment for 24 hr, draining the supernatant water, and finally drying the concentrated sediment at a temperature of 105 ºC in an oven. The amount of pollution load entering from the Shahid Rajaee Dam tourist area and the park located on the banks of the Tajan River in Sari city was identified as the main population centers of pollutants in the Tajan watershed, and the amount of human-produced nitrogen and phosphorus was considered to be 3-5 gr of organic phosphorus per person per day and 6-10 gr of organic nitrogen per person per day, based on existing criteria and standards.Studies have shown that the concentration of suspended solids in the workshops downstream of upstream was increased by 0.4 gr L-1 on average. Nitrate concentrations in cold water fish ponds were increased on average by 0.2 mgL-1 in the ponds' output. It was estimated that 45 kgd-1 of organic phosphorus and 120 kgd-1 of organic nitrogen from household wastewater located in Sari city and the countryside enter directly into the Tajan River.
